Becoming an NMP
Information for new NMPs
Congratulations on becoming a NMP. Please note all NMPs should complete a form to let the ICB know when a NMP is starting or leaving at a GP Practice. The ICB must advise the NHS Business Authority who is prescribing at each surgery and your submitted forms will allow us to do this. Your prescribing will then be attributed to your practice. The ICB has been asked to produce a database of all NMPs working in GP Practices in Gloucestershire, we therefore need forms from all NMPs so we can add you to that database.
The NMP Policy has 3 appendices to guide you:
- Appendix 1: NMP New Starter or Amendments
- Appendix 2: Notification of a NMP leaving
- Appendix 3: Information for NMPs
NMP Courses
Below is a selection of local NMP courses:
- UWE (University West of England): Non-medical prescribing
- University of Gloucestershire: Independent & Supplementary Prescribing CPS [Level 7]
- University of Worcester: Postgraduate Award in Professional Development Independent and Supplementary Prescribing
Supervising a healthcare professional through the NMP course
The NMP course provider should provide materials for supporting and supervising staff through the NMP course. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) have a Competency Framework for Designated Prescribing Practitioners, which may offer additional support to your role.
