Between 1997 and today there have been three major reports produced under the auspices of Dame Fiona Caldicott, looking at the use, sharing and protection of personal data in health and care services. Including GDPR regulations that came into effect May 2018.

This half day course provides the Practice Manager & Caldicott Guardian/Information Governance lead with up to date knowledge and
resources to achieve the appropriate balance and ensure information is used effectively, appropriately and legally.

Background and Update:

Caldicott then and now. What are the current and forthcoming
challenges for Guardians in Primary Care?
• What can go wrong? Why protect personal information – new threats
• Principles of justification, necessity, need to know, legal basis to use data

Principle into practice:
• Sharing of sensitive patient information between agencies, confidentiality dilemmas
• Access to records by staff, patients and others
• Further uses of data that do not directly relate to patient care
