COPD – the Complete Journey.

This workshop is suitable for: Nurses, GP’s, Pharmacists, Nurse Associates and other similarly trained clinical staff.

Introduction
Written and delivered by two experienced nurses, one a Respiratory Nurse Specialist in Primary Care the other a Community Respiratory Matron; the course is designed for all Health Care Professionals involved with the care of patients with COPD. It takes you through the complete patient journey, from diagnosis to palliative care and aims to inform Health Professionals of the key elements of good quality care and raise awareness of some of the techniques and resources available.
Day 1
- Diagnosis – History Taking, Risk Factors
- Diagnosis – Objective tests – including using spirometry overview
- Treatment – Pharmacological and non-pharmacological –what is in our armoury
- Inhalers – getting it right
- Routine review – not just a tick-box exercise.
- Exacerbation management
Day 2
- Community Care – Where to go next? What can we offer?
- COPD optimisation – Covering assessment, breathlessness, Pacing and Lifestyle factors
- Pulmonary rehab – Why it matters?
- Oxygen, understanding blood gases, NIV – What do I need to know?
- End of Life care – Getting it right for the patient, the family and us
