Wound Care Wisdom – Skin Tears with Jo-Anna Grove
January 8 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
An education session that will cover Skin Tears – categorisation, prevention and treatment. This is
a common injury experienced by those of advancing age and is felt to be more prevalent than
pressure ulcers. This session will outline why the elderly are more at risk and give hints and tips
for good wound care but more importantly how to educate patients to reduce their risks of skin
tears.
Jo-Anna is proud to have been involved in Tissue Viability since the turn of the century! She has
worked in industry roles as well as in a Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist role during this
time. Whilst she is now working back in an industry role, her mantra is ‘you can take the girl out
of Tissue Viability, but you will never take Tissue Viability out of the girl!’. She graduated from
Cardiff University in 2015 with an MSc in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair and remains as
passionate about Tissue Viability today as she was when she first started to specialise in this
clinical area. She maintains her NMC registration and is fortunate to have an Honorary Contract
as a Tissue Viability Nurse with Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
