Why is this training needed in Doctor’s Surgeries?

The need for this training in doctor’s surgeries is evident due to the concerning rise in verbal and physical abuse directed towards staff.

According to the BMJ (British Medical Journal) on a national level…

  • There were 1068 violent incidents in Doctor Surgeries (2021-22)

What is the picture in Gloucestershire ?

The picture is similarly alarming. Survey carried out across 43 Gloucestershire practices (2022).

  • All 43 practices had experienced verbal abuse (17 of the practices say the cases were 50+ in number).
  • 9 practices have had to deal with physical abuse.

Benefits & Outcomes of the Training

  1. Allows staff to scale an appropriate response.
  2. Enables staff to manage risk more effectively.
  3. Enhances staff/patient relationship.
  4. Safer staff and patients.
  5. Builds self-confidence & resilience.

The Rationale behind the Resolve365 Training

The Resolve365 training will provide a comprehensive mental and physical approach to handling challenging and escalating situations. By introducing staff to a structured framework of understanding, the training will facilitate effective decision-making even in high-pressure situations.

This framework will enable staff to gauge the level of risk being faced and respond appropriately and proportionately.

Central to the training is prioritising the best and safest outcome for all parties involved.

How will the Training be delivered ?

The programmes will be delivered in 3 ways:

What have others had to say about the Training ?

Dr Jeremy Welch

‘Brilliant session! Bad stuff happens and sometimes it does not always happen to ‘other people’. Really interactive workshop and a must for all staff in contact with patients and the public. Looking after ourselves and our staff is something we often neglect as we are so busy trying to help others. Genuinely this could be the most important workshop you ever attend.’

Dr Jeremy Welch
Mythe Medical Practice, Tewkesbury
