DESCRIPTION:The aim of this workshop is to equip managers with the knowledge\, skills and strategies to effectively manage some of the more common challenging staffing situations that line managers encounter. It provides a blend of theory and practice\, explores the transition into a management role\, addresses the shift in relationships for people who have been promoted from within their own teams and creates an opportunity to share experiences\, ideas and approaches with others in a similar position. \nThis course aims to provide new managers with a comprehensive introduction to management\, developing and building skills and increasing the confidence of participants. \nWho should attend the workshop\n\nManagers\, team leads and staff in a supervisory role\, whether clinical or non-clinical.\n\nLearning outcomes\nBy the end of the two days (or four half-days) participants will have: \n\nIncreased their understanding of the transition into management\nIncreased their understanding of their role and responsibilities as a manager\nIncreased their self–awareness\nExplored different styles of management and be aware of their own approach\nUnderstood the importance of performance management and their role in it\nIdentified the management skills needed to carry out their role effectively and had the opportunity to practice some of these skills\nAppraised their existing management skills and have a plan for their ongoing development\nConsidered ways that the learning can be applied back at work\n\nWorkshop format\nA variety of training methods are used including direct input from the trainer\, structured activities in large and small groups and purposeful discussion. Zoom joining instructions will be sent as part of the meeting invitations unless the organisation prefers to use its own video conferencing facility.  \nThis workshop can also be run in-house. This workshop will look at practical techniques to help you achieve successful and positive outcomes with those difficult people and/or situations. Techniques learned are immediately applicable to your workplace. \nThis course shows participants how to achieve the win-win situation with their most challenging patients. \nWho should attend the workshop:\nAll non-clinical staff \nLearning outcomes:\nBy the end of the workshop participants will: \n– Understand why people may be difficult\n– Be able to recognise and diffuse a situation before it starts\n– Know how to choose when to be assertive\n– Have more confidence when dealing with difficult people\n– Have discussed situations you may face and how to deal with them in the future\n– Have practised behaviours language to be used\n– Know when to deal with the situation yourself\n– Know when to pass the difficult situation on \nWorkshop format:\nThe format will be informal and participative – everyone has an important contribution to make to the discussions. \nA typical workshop will cover: \n– Management theory and research input from the trainer\n– Learning from our shared experiences\n– Small group work to discuss and share ideas

SUMMARY:Managing Challenging Staffing Situations
DESCRIPTION:The aim of this workshop is to equip managers with the knowledge\, skills and strategies to effectively manage some of the more common challenging staffing situations that line managers encounter. During the workshop we will consider employees who are not performing in their role; employees with high levels of short-term absence; employees who are disruptive and employees who display a negative attitude. \nWho should attend the workshop\n\nTeam leaders\, line managers and supervisors\n\nLearning outcomes\nDuring the workshop we will cover: \n\nWhy we need to manage challenging situations\nHow to give effective feedback – a model that can be applied in any situation\nHow to identify an employee not performing in their role\nHow to start an informal performance management\nprocess\, using a Performance Improvement Plan\nHow to effectively manage employees with high levels of short-term absence\nWhat you can and cannot do as an employer\nManaging employees who are disruptive and display a negative attitude\nUnderstanding motivations\nApplying a ‘firm but fair’ management style\n\nWorkshop format\nThe format will be informal and participative – everyone has an important contribution to make to the discussions. \nA typical workshop will cover: \n\nManagement theory and research input from the trainer\nLearning from our shared experiences\nSmall group work to discuss and share ideas\n\nZoom joining instructions will be sent as part of the meeting invitations unless the organisation prefers to use its own video conferencing facility.  Copies of the slides will be sent out after each workshop. \nThis workshop can also be run in-house please email info@generalpracticetraining.co.uk and we will be pleased to chat to you.
