Confident & Positive Communication for General Practice

Confident & Positive Communication gives primary care teams a practical way to understand how NHS pressures, patient expectations and internal assumptions influence everyday conversations.

We explore the impact of tone, language and perception, and help staff use clear, positive communication to reduce confusion, support patient understanding and create a smoother experience across all contact points. The workshop introduces shared tools that make communication more consistent across the whole team.

By the end of the workshop participants will:

  • Understand how perceptions, change and assumptions affect communication with patients.
  • Recognise how tone, language and clarity influence patient reactions and expectations.
  • Learn practical skills in empathy, positive language, active listening and professional assertiveness.
  • Use simple models, including the HEART tool, to structure clearer, calmer interactions.
  • Leave with everyday communication habits that improve patient clarity and reduce avoidable repeat contact.

Benefits:

  • Strengthens patient trust through clearer, calmer and more professional conversations.
  • Improves clarity and consistency in patient communication across all contact points.
  • Reduces confusion, repeat contact and avoidable complaints.
