Stepping Into Leadership
Do you want to support new and aspiring leaders to step into leadership with confidence and clarity?
If so, Stepping Into Leadership provides a practical, supportive introduction to leadership in the reality of primary care.
Overview
Moving into leadership is rarely straightforward. Many people step into these roles because they are good at what they do—but quickly realise that leading people brings new challenges, expectations and pressures.
This workshop creates space for new and aspiring leaders to make sense of that shift, build confidence and develop a more sustainable approach to leadership.
We focus on the reality of leading within general practice and neighbourhood teams—helping participants understand common patterns such as overworking, taking on too much responsibility or avoiding difficult conversations.
The session is practical and grounded, supporting participants to develop a leadership approach based on their strengths, values and real-world experience rather than theory alone.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Understand the transition from team member to leader and what changes in the role
- Build confidence in leading others within a busy, complex environment
- Develop a clear and personal leadership style grounded in strengths and values
- Recognise and address common challenges such as overworking or taking on too much
- Leave with practical strategies and small, realistic changes they can apply immediately
Workshop benefits
- Builds leadership confidence early in the leadership journey
- Encourages more consistent and sustainable leadership approaches
- Reduces pressure and risk of burnout by addressing unhelpful patterns
- Strengthens team ownership and reduces dependency on individuals
Ideal for
- New or recently appointed leaders (typically within the first 2 years)

- Aspiring leaders preparing for a leadership role
