Practical development for your practice team — designed for the real world of primary care.
Primary care is under more pressure than ever — growing demand, workforce gaps, increased patient complexity, and limited time for staff development. We know that practices want to build on the confidence of their teams, support consistent communication, and enable their staff to grow skills – all of which contribute to a positive experience for your patient population.
Noting this, Gloucestershire Primary Care Training hub are collaborating with The Development People to fund and launch‘The Primary Care Development Pathway’.
This Development Pathway offers practical, engaging development and has been designed with administrative colleagues at the heart. We would however, welcome the attendance of all of the practice team (operational or clinical). It is designed to build capability, consistency, and confidence in role now, and in the future.
Whether your team members are new in post or more experienced, want to stay in their current role or progress their career, the Development Pathway will offer something for all.
For the first year of launch, the programme will be provided Free of Charge to participants. We therefore strongly encourage attendance.

Further details will follow shortly, but in summary the Development Pathway will:
• Strengthen team confidence, skills and resilience
• Support and retain valuable staff
• Provide practical tools and approaches that work in busy primary care environments
• Reduce time pressures on managers by building capability within teams
• Improve patient experience through clearer communication and empowered staff
• Embed learning through line manager support and follow-up resources
• Foster a culture of growth, ownership and wellbeing across the practice
We are launching the programme in April 2026 – with the opportunity for Practice Managers to join short (20min) webinars to find out more on Tuesday 24th March Presentation slides from the webinar can be viewed here

If you want to get ahead of the game… we are releasing spaces for the first 2 workshops which will take place on Thursday 30th April at The Pavilion, Hatherley Lane, Cheltenham GL51 6PN.
Confident & Positive Patient Communication in Primary Care – (09:30-12:30)
This practical workshop helps primary care teams understand how NHS changes and rising patient expectations affect everyday patient interactions. Participants explore how perceptions, assumptions and the impact of change can influence communication and patient experience. The session explores practical skills such as positive language, empathy and assertiveness to help staff communicate clearly, guide patients effectively and hold boundaries professionally.
Mindset Matters – 13:00-16:00
Developing mindset strategies and new habits that enhance patients’ experiences by increasing confidence and staying calm under pressure. We introduce practical tools to help staff pause, choose their response and reflect on what works.
