At zero training cost for your practice (noting your practice/PCN will need to support- 6 hours ‘applied learning’ per week), the Level 3 Data Technician apprenticeship is designed to provide learners with the practical skills and professional behaviours required to securely source, structure, and present data in ways that support effective decision-making. Apprentices are trained to use fundamental analytical techniques, integrate data from multiple sources, and communicate insights clearly and appropriately to a range of stakeholders.
How could a Level 3 Data Technician apprenticeship qualification support the work of my team?
- Analysing audit/quality improvement data
- Project management data analysis, i.e. reviewing data to assess project impact
- Population health management data analysis
- Demand and Capacity planning
- Practice trends e.g. understanding the busiest times for the practice
- Queries received
- Reviewing data to meet CQC standards
- Data Quality reviews e.g. correcting coding of patients and activity claims (minor surgery, vaccinations etc), leading to improved patient experience.
- Risk stratification e.g. identification of at-risk patients
The Level 3 Data Technician apprentices will have the opportunity to complete an optional Level 2 Medical Terminology qualification after completion of their apprenticeship. This integrated approach ensures that apprentices not only develop strong data skills but also gain sector-specific knowledge that supports the unique needs of their role.

Entry requirements:
There are no formal entry requirements for the Level 3 Data Technician Apprenticeship, but if you do not have Maths/English GCSE (grade 4/C) or a functional skills qualification, please contact the Primary Care Training hub on glicb.pcwc@nhs.net to discuss before proceeding. Prior to enrolment onto this apprenticeship, the apprenticeship provider will also conduct a ‘skill scan’ with all applicants to ensure this is the right course to support their ongoing professional development.
