Gloucestershire Primary Care Training Hub Apprenticeship Awards 2025

Colleagues from Gloucestershire Primary Care Training Hub recently had the pleasure of visiting a number of our practices across the county to congratulate the winners of the 2025 Gloucestershire Primary Care Training Hub Apprenticeship Awards. Nominations were received from a range of Practices employing those on apprenticeships and the panel were particularly impressed with the stories of our nominees.

The Talent, Enthusiasm and Passion conveyed in each one was inspirational, and spoke volumes about both the individuals but also the apprenticeships and how they have been used to harness talent, tap into skills that were already there and up skill individuals to allow them to progress in their chosen careers.

Winners received a Certificate of Achievement, flowers and a £200 CPD bursary towards their continued education and developement

Clinical Apprentice of the Year

Helen Cook

Helen’s nomination spoke of her strength of character her resilience and her dedication to her role. She began working at her current practice 10 years ago as a HCA, she then undertook her Nursing Associate Apprenticeship, and then progressed to her RNDA top up. Helen is an inspiration to her colleagues and actively promotes apprenticeships to her peers. Her experience demonstrates how individuals can use consecutive apprenticeships progress their career. Her practice are incredibly proud of her work ethic her dedication to her patients and overcoming a number of challenges to achieve her goals of becoming a registered nurse.

Registered Nurse Apprenticeship (Level 6)

Matt Jones

Matt’s nomination spoke of his passion for supporting patients, his commitment and his enthusiasm for the role. He was originally employed as a Health Care Support Worker and was put forward to undertake the Nursing Associate Apprenticeships when colleagues spotted his potential. His passion is supporting patients to improve their health and well being through sustainable lifestyle changes – invaluable to patients who need support with diabetes control and respiratory management.

He is an asset to his team and his patients say he is “Thorough,” “Professional,” and “Kind.”

Non Clinical Apprentice of the Year

Lauren Scarle

Lauren joined her practice as a Business Administration Apprentice, and was immediately identified as a rising star – calm, adaptive and always willing and able. Lauren’s aptitude for figures, meant she was able to take over some finance work following a colleagues retirement. Her tenacity and thorough approach has meant she has navigated the challenges of general practice accounts with determination and commitment. Through her hard work and establishing new systems, has ensured her practice are in an excellent position. She is an asset to her practice, and they are immensely grateful to her for her hard work and proud of her achievements.

Business Adminstrator Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Scarlett Cremin

Scarlett joined her practice on a Customer Services Apprenticeship, having left Sixth Form early. She began working on reception and quickly integrated into the team, overcoming her shyness and lack of confidence. She received amazing feedback from the patients regarding her customer service skills and quickly developed her role. Scarlett was noted to be always positive, optimistic and very accommodating. Her colleagues have been incredibly impressed with her can do approach and she has been an asset to the reception. She has now embarked on her training to become a HCA and her practice are delighted to have gained such a great team member.

Apprenticeship Mentor of the Year

Ruby Clapton

Ruby began her time in her current practice as a newly qualified nurse and it immediately became apparent she had an aptitude for supporting and teaching students, due to her own experience of being a student in General Practice. She was approached to become a mentor for a HCSW completing their SNA as an apprentice and has excelled in the role. Her positive approach, work ethic and ability to support has been fundamental to her success. Ruby has been described by her mentee as a complete star, incredibly patient and providing fantastic support and encouragement.

Nearly all Apprenticeships in Primary Care can be 100% funded by a levy transfer, the only cost to the practice is the salary of the individual, so they remain the most cost effective way to up skill existing staff or introduce new talent.
